16 Hour Company Security Officer (CSO) offers course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Company Security Officer (CSO), as defined in paragraph 2.1.7 (and paragraph 11.1) of the ISPS Code, Part A, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a ship, for ensuring the development (or for developing) of a shipsecurity assessment, for ensuring the development (or for developing), implementation, maintenance and updating of a ship security plan and for liaising with Vessel/Ships Security Officers (V/SSOs) and with Facility Security Officers (FSOs).

Attendance in this course requires the following: This course is open to prospective seafarers andshould preferably be given prior to their being employed by a Maritime Shipping Company or aFacility as described in 33 CFR. There are no particular educational requirements.It is assumed that those attending this course will be persons employed (or to be employed) by acompany and that they are likely to be designated as Company Security Officer. However, nospecific entry requirements are envisaged. Candidates desiring the endorsement must submittheir completed application package to the appropriate U.S. Coast Guard Regional ExaminationCenter for evaluation as prescribed by applicable regulations and policies. Candidates need notbe approved by the U.S. Coast Guard prior to participating in this course. However, a Photo ID isrequired IAW;
