Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Upgrade MIDATL – 33 course training, will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.465(f), and covers the material required by Table 2 to §11.910 for original issuance of a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels (Near Coastal or Inland), and Mate Pilot Towing Vessel (Near Coastal or Inland) or 46 CFR 11.463 for renewal of a license as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels (Inland & Near Coastal) Mate Pilot Towing Vessel (Near Coastal or Inland). This course is an approved training course as complying with the requirements of 46 CFR 11.466 and Navigation and Vessel Inspection Circular No. 4-01 Subj: Licensing and Manning for Officers of Towing Vessels Date may 21, 2001.   A mariner who successfully completes the course within 1 year of application will satisfy the professional examination requirements for any national officer endorsement as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) for Great Lakes, Inland, and Near Coastal route

There is no minimum entry standard prescribed for this course. Although the course is designedwith the professional mariner in mind, it remains open for anyone simply wishing to expand his orher maritime knowledge. Candidates desiring the license must submit their completed applicationpackage to the appropriate U.S. Coast Guard Regional Examination Center for evaluation asprescribed by applicable regulations and policies. The U.S. Coast Guard need not approvecandidates prior to participating in this course. However, a Photo ID is required IAW However, Any applicant who has successfully completed your Apprentice Mate (Steersman) Upgrade (MARINS-33) course within one year of application will satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.466(a) for original issuance of an endorsement as Apprentice Mate (Steersman) of Towing Vessels (Near Coastal, Great Lakes and Inland, or Inland), PROVIDED applicant is endorsed as Master of less than 200 GRT; OR has satisfied the examination requirements for Master of less than 200 GRT within the previous 12 months.
