This training course is designed to comply with the revalidation requirements for STCW personal survival techniques as delineated in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 46 11.302 and 46 12.602. Assessments meet the requirements of United States Coast Guard (Coast Guard) NVIC 08-14 Ch-1. Guidelines on Qualifications for STCW Endorsements in Basic Training.

To register for this course, a person must have:
Successfully completed a Basic Training course within the last 5 years.
At least 1 year of sea service in the last five years.
The ability to stay afloat for a period of at least one minute without the aid of a life jacket,
immersion suit, or other device providing buoyancy assistance.
No physical examination is required however each student must be physically capable of independently
performing each of the course required practical competencies without endangering others due to any
physical impairment. Successful completion of course practical competencies required by this course may
require:
An undisturbed sense of balance.
Ability to, without assistance, to climb up and down vertical ladders and inclined stairs.
Ability to grasp, lift, and manipulate various common shipboard emergency response equipment
(survival).
Ability to move hands and arms to operate a variety of firefighting and personal survival
equipment, to open and close valve wheels in vertical and horizontal directions, and rotate wrists
to turn handles.
Not having any impairment or disease that could prevent normal movement and physical
activities.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
This 1-day Revalidation course is a U.S. Coast Guard-approved course and therefore may not be accepted by foreign governments/employers. This course is directed towards U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential holders, who must refer to the following U.S. Coast Guard National Maritime Center requirements for renewal of Basic Training: https://www.dco.uscg.mil/Portals/9/NMC/pdfs/checklists/mcp_fm_nmc5_241_web.pdf
Sea service must be submitted to U.S. Coast Guard with application for renewal. Sea service on recreational vessels that are not subject to STCW must submit actual proof of drills.
If you are NOT a U.S. mariner credential holder, you must check with your foreign agency if they would accept this training certificate. For example, the United Kingdom MCA may or may not accept this 1-day Revalidation training. MI advises that Non-U.S. mariners should instead renew their Basic Training through our 3-day Basic Training Refresher course which satisfies continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training (not limited to Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting).
