Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) (MIDATL-560) course meets the standards of competence provided in 33 CFR 105.205, International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS) Code Part A/2.1.8, ISPS Code Part A/17, and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO) (2015 Edition). The course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and responsibilities of a Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO), as defined in section A/2.1.8 (and section A/17) of the ISPS Code, and in particular the duties and responsibilities with respect to the security of a port facility, for ensuring the development (or for developing) of a Port Facility Security Assessment, for ensuring the development (or for developing) of, implementing, maintaining and updating a Port Facility Security Plan and for >liaising with Ship Security Officers (SSOs) and with Company Security Officers (CSOs).
This course is intended for students seeking to undertake a position as a Facility Security Officer. There are no particular educational requirements. Each student must meet the 46 CFR 10.221 ‘Citizen’ regulations and, as a minimum, be able to speak and understand the English language and be at least 16 years old. No physical examination is required. To receive the USCG credential portion they must meet the requirements as outlined on the National Maritime Center website
