Scope The mission of Training Resources DBA Maritime Institute Limited and Small Vessel Deck License Refresher Course eight hours of instructor lead course has been designed to meet the requirements of Reference (a) and provide training in: rules of the road, chart navigation, laying out a course, correcting and uncorrecting the compass, set and drift, leeway, speed-time-and distance, finding your position, chart information, stability, firefighting, life raft, tides and currents, pollution, weather, and aids to navigation. This 8-hour course provides mariners an opportunity to renew their National Deck Officer license up to 200 Tons only, by satisfactorily completing the one-day classroom presentation and end of course examination. No sea service is required. Successful completion of this course will satisfy: the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.227(e)(1)(iii) for renewal of deck credentials endorsed for service upon vessels of less than 200 GRT. Please note this course does not renew other endorsements you may hold in your Merchant Mariner Credential.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

The prerequisites are limited license captains, masters, mates of inspected or uninspected vessels who desire to renew their U. S. Coast Guard License by taking this deck refresher course. Students must attend the complete class and satisfactorily pass the end-of-course test.

 

No physical examination is required however each student must be physically capable of independently performing each of the course required practical competencies.
