The Emergency Medical Technician course prepares the student to provide pre-hospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Areas of study include an introduction to emergency medical services systems, roles and responsibilities of EMTs, anatomy and physiology, medical emergencies, trauma, special considerations for working in the prehospital setting, and providing patient transportation. The course curriculum is based on current DOT National EMS Education Standards and exceeds curriculum standards set forth by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the WA State Department of Health.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements
Must be at least 17 years of age by first day of class. Must be 18 years of age to participate in field internship, which is a requirement of the program. Must have valid diploma/GED or equivalent. Must be physically and emotionally capable of performing the required duties of an EMT. Must be able to commit to 90% attendance or better. No more than 8 hours of class absence allowed. Must furnish copy of proof of immunization or recent titer (TB, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap). These should be documented on the "EMT Student Immunization Passport" included in the Application Packet. Copies of proof of vaccination or immunity should be attached to the immunization passport. These can typically be obtained by your primary care doctor or school.
