Advanced Machinist

Bates Technical College ETPL
If you like to build and create things, are detail-oriented, and like to work with your hands, the Machinist program may be the perfect fit. At Bates, you will learn to use conventional machines, CNC machining centers and turning centers. In this hands-on program, you will complete a series of projects designed to broaden your machining experience. With instructors who have years of experience and a workshop with the newest equipment available, you will have the opportunity to learn in a setting that mirrors the industry. Machinist students at Bates Tech produce precision parts, tools, and instruments using both manual and computerized machining systems. Our program, with a history spanning more than 60 years, will prepare you for apprentice positions through local agencies. The curriculum combines hands-on experience in the use of traditional precision tooling and machining equipment, as well as sophisticated, state-of-the-art technology including CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, and program-specific software. Explore the real-world application of your skills through quarterly organized field trips. Our Job Shadow activity provides opportunities for students to spend a full day working alongside industry machinists. Additionally, our partnership with AJAC ensures that graduates receive comprehensive support in crafting resumes and navigating the job search landscape. What sets us apart? According to instructor data, the program has an 88% placement rate for graduates over the past five years. Our Advanced Machining program caters to diverse individuals – whether you’re upskilling for career advancements or pursuing a comprehensive two-year AAS degree before entering the workforce. Bates Tech offers unparalleled learning in an industry-mirroring setting.
