Safety Specialist

Atomic Technical Institute ETPL
The Safety Specialist Program prepares students for entry-level roles in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, construction safety, industrial safety, and safety program support. This program is designed for individuals who want to build practical safety skills that can be used in real workplace environments. Students learn how to recognize hazards, support OSHA compliance, participate in job hazard analyses, assist with incident prevention, document safety activities, and recommend corrective actions. The curriculum combines classroom instruction, guided exercises, hands-on labs, scenario-based activities, and instructor-led review. Students receive practical exposure to key safety topics including workplace hazard recognition, OSHA regulations, industrial hygiene principles, accident investigation, safety management systems, environmental protection, risk control practices, contractor safety, construction safety, emergency preparedness, and safety training development. A major strength of the program is its focus on workforce readiness. Students practice the types of tasks commonly performed by safety professionals and safety support personnel. Depending on employer requirements and individual qualifications, graduates may seek entry-level positions such as Safety Specialist, Safety Coordinator, EHS Technician, Safety Compliance Assistant, Environmental Health and Safety Assistant, Site Safety Representative, Safety Program Support Technician, Contractor Safety Assistant, Construction Safety Assistant, or Safety Manager Trainee. Training activities may include workplace inspections, hazard identification exercises, PPE reviews, job hazard analysis activities, incident investigation scenarios, corrective action tracking, emergency preparedness exercises, safety communication activities, and safety documentation. The program is offered through a hybrid training model that may include in-person instruction, hands-on practical exercises, structured online coursework, and optional capstone activities. This format is designed to support working adults and students seeking a practical pathway into the safety field. Students who successfully complete the program receive an ATI Course Completion Certificate, Training Completion Card, and a Program Completion Packet for submission to CSU for eligible academic credit consideration, subject to CSU policies and transfer credit evaluation.
