Industrial Hygiene Technician

Atomic Technical Institute ETPL
The Industrial Hygiene Technician Program prepares students for entry-level roles in industrial hygiene, occupational health, environmental health and safety, exposure assessment support, and workplace health hazard control. This program is designed for individuals who want to build practical industrial hygiene skills that can be used in real workplace environments. Students learn how to recognize occupational health hazards, support exposure assessment activities, document field observations, assist with sampling and monitoring tasks, apply the hierarchy of controls, and communicate basic industrial hygiene findings. The curriculum combines classroom instruction, guided exercises, hands-on labs, field documentation practice, instrumentation activities, scenario-based learning, and structured online coursework where applicable. Students receive practical exposure to key industrial hygiene topics including IH mathematics, chemistry, toxicology, hazard recognition, OSHA standards, exposure assessment, air contaminants, aerosol science, air sampling equipment, direct-reading instruments, 4-gas meter operations, heat stress monitoring, noise monitoring, ventilation measurements, ergonomics, hazardous materials interaction, occupational epidemiology, risk assessment, and IH program management. A major strength of the program is its focus on field readiness and technical documentation. Students practice the types of tasks commonly performed by industrial hygiene technicians and EHS support personnel, including workplace walkdowns, sampling plan support, calibration documentation, chain-of-custody forms, field logs, exposure data calculations, instrument use, basic interpretation of findings, and technical report preparation. Depending on employer requirements and individual qualifications, graduates may seek entry-level positions such as Industrial Hygiene Technician, IH Technician, EHS Technician, Occupational Health Technician, Exposure Assessment Technician, Safety and Health Technician, Environmental Health and Safety Assistant, Field Sampling Technician, or Industrial Hygiene Program Support Technician. The program is offered through a hybrid training model that may include in-person instruction, hands-on practical exercises, structured online coursework, and optional capstone activities. This format is designed to support working adults and students seeking a practical pathway into the industrial hygiene and occupational health field. Students who successfully complete the program receive an ATI Course Completion Certificate Training Completion Card, and a Program Completion Packet for submission to CSU for eligible academic credit consideration, subject to CSU policies and transfer credit evaluation.
