The Maritime Institute Upgrade Master Near Coastal Less than 100 GRT to Master/Mate Near Coastal Less than 200 GRT (MARINS-527) 24-hour training course provides instruction on subjects for officer endorsements required by 46 CFR 11.910 to increase tonnage limitations from 100 tons to 200 tons for Master of self-propelled vessels less than 100 GRT Near Coastal waters to Master of selfpropelled vessels less than 200 GRT Near Coastal waters.
The course deals with the responsibilities of a Master 200 GRT vessel. This is accomplished using inperson classroom conventional teaching and training methods, participative training techniques (such as task solving, both individually and in groups), exercises as well as the most common forms of teaching, e.g., lectures, audio-visual presentation and practical applications
Entry Standards This course is designed for an upgrade in tonnage and increase in scope for students who holds at a minimum a Master of vessels of less than 100 GRT (Near Coastal) or has within the past year satisfied the examination requirements for that endorsement.
In addition, this course is open to students that must, as a minimum, be able to speak and understand the English language and be at least 16 years old. No physical examination is required.
