To enroll in the Class A CDL upgrade program (from Class B), the following requirements must be met:

Possession of a valid Class B CDL issued by Washington State or any other U.S. state.

Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate (Medical Card) in compliance with FMCSA regulations.

Valid Washington State Driver's License (or out-of-state equivalent).

Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) or Driver’s Abstract issued within the past 30 days showing a clean and eligible driving history.

Social Security Number (used for ELDT registry compliance).
-
Proof of U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Residency (such as birth certificate, passport, green card).

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) Registry enrollment – student must be eligible for registration through the FMCSA Training Provider Registry (TPR).

Ability to read, speak, and understand English well enough to converse with the general public, understand traffic signs/signals, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records as required by 49 CFR §391.11(b)(2).
No additional theory prerequisites are required beyond the above, as this program assumes the student has previously completed Class B-level theory and range instruction. However, all Class A-level theory, range, and behind-the-wheel requirements will be met during this upgrade course, including:
