The Acupuncture program at Middle Way Acupuncture Institute has evolved from an apprenticeship model into a school for working adults who desire to make a transition to another profession. Students embarking upon initial training for a profession will also find a compatible learning environment here. The program is set up in 36 monthly intensive sessions of one four-day weekend per month with a weekly clinical program running concurrently during the third year. The program is divided into six semesters.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

General Education Applicants must be able to document a minimum of 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits (with a minimum of a “C” grade) from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or an equivalent institution outside the United States. Required Courses The following courses are required to be completed before entering the program:      Biology: 3 semester credits or 5 quarter credits Chemistry: 3 semester credits or 5 quarter credits Two college level courses (3 semester credits or 5 quarter credits for each course) in any of the following subjects: Medical Terminology, Psychology, Western Nutrition, Sociology, Anthropology, Global health, or Physics. Other western science courses could be substituted with approval from the Registrar on a case by case basis.   The following co-requisite courses are required to be completed by the specified dates: Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II: 7 semester credits or 10 quarter credits total – to be completed by December of the student’s first year. Students must earn a “C” or higher in their pre or co-requisite courses in order for the credit to be considered. None of the 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits required for admission to Middle Way Acupuncture Institutes Master’s Level Diploma in Acupuncture program may be used toward meeting the required 450 hours of bioscience classes included in the program curriculum.

Successful completion of the Masters Diploma in Acupuncture Program will qualify graduates to sit for the National Certification Board for Acupuncture Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM) Acupuncture with Point Location, Biomedicine, and Foundations of Oriental Medicine exams.
