The Medical Assistant Program at BBCC prepares students to successfully work side by side with a doctor and other health care professionals in a clinic or hospital setting. Students will maintain the highest quality of patient care, learn to set up patients for examination, draw blood for basic lab studies, administer some medications, do ECG's, assist with minor surgical procedures, and perform front office skills related to medical records and billing. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements for categories A, B, C & E Health Care Assistant as described in WAC 246-826-170. Medical Assistants will be prepared for diverse front and back office medical positions by learned theory, lab and clinical skills combined with extern experience in a physician's office. Graduates successfully completing the Medical Assisting program at Big Bend Community College are immediately eligible for certification as Registered Medical Assistants (RMA)/Certified Medical Assistant (CMAS) with American Medical Technologists.
