80 total hours. 18 hours of street driving training, 16 hours of training in backing maneuvers, 16 hours of proficiency development and 30 hours of combined lab training, range training and observation. Field instruction consists of coupling and uncoupling and the hazards involved with it, vehicle systems with a strong emphasis on brakes and electrical systems, vehicle maintenance, vehicle inspection where the student is taught the CDL pre-trip inspection per regulations, street driving training, shifting, backing maneuvers training, visual search, space management and speed management.
