HCA Learning Plan 4b is a partial training pathway that allows students to apply previously completed training toward the 75-hour HCA requirement, helping them avoid repeating coursework and complete certification more efficiently. This option is intended for caregivers who have completed Orientation & Safety and are continuing their training. It includes Core Basic training, skills practice and required population specific training to meet certification requirements. This course is ideal for students who prefer hands-on, in-person skills training in a classroom setting while completing the rest of their coursework online. This plan is best for caregivers working in home care settings or those who have already completed or do not require Mental Health and Dementia training. In-person skills training is available to schedule in Spokane, Olympia, Vancouver, Mountlake Terrace, and Sequim. This Learning Plan Includes: Core Basic training; In-person skills lab for hands-on practice; Nurse Delegation; Nurse Delegation - Special Focus on Diabetes. Students will be required to submit their 5-hour Orientation and Safety certificate in order to complete this program. Upon completion, students will receive a DSHS 75 hour Home Care Aide (HCA) certificate.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

Cornerstone Healthcare Training requires all applicants to complete a pre-enrollment basic skills and comprehension assessment prior to enrollment, in compliance with WAC 490-105-140.

The assessment consists of a standardized set of required questions designed to evaluate measurable indicators aligned with both training success and employment prerequisites for the caregiving role. These include:

  • Understanding of course expectations and ability to complete coursework and assignments
  • Ability to engage with instructional materials and follow directions
  • Access to and ability to use required technology
  • Communication and comprehension ability, with or without support such as translation tools
  • Physical and functional readiness to perform basic caregiving tasks
  • Personal attributes relevant to caregiving, such as patience, flexibility, and adaptability

 

Students must score 80 percent or higher to be admitted into the program.

Students are also required to submit a copy of their WA DSHS-approved 5 hour Orientation and Safety certificates to complete the program.
