HCA Learning Plan 2b prepares caregivers to become a certified Home Care Aide (HCA), a required credential for working in Washington State long-term care settings. This learning plan prepares caregivers to complete the 75-hour HCA training requirement with a focus on Nurse Delegation.

Learning Plan 2b is best suited for caregivers working in home care or private-duty settings, or for those who have already completed Mental Health and Dementia training.

This option is ideal for students who want hands-on, in-person skills training along in a group setting with their coursework.

Includes In-Person Skills Labs with locations available in Spokane, Olympia, Mountlake Terrace, Sequim, and Vancouver.

 

This Learning Plan Includes:

  • Core Basic training

  • In-person skills lab

  • Nurse Delegation Core

  • Nurse Delegation – Special Focus on Diabetes


Upon completion, students will receive a DSHS 75 Hour Home Care Aide (HCA) certificate.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

Cornerstone Healthcare Training requires all applicants to complete a pre-enrollment basic skills and comprehension assessment prior to enrollment, in compliance with WAC 490-105-140.

The assessment consists of a standardized set of required questions designed to evaluate measurable indicators aligned with both training success and employment prerequisites for the caregiving role. These include:

  • Understanding of course expectations and ability to complete coursework and assignments
  • Ability to engage with instructional materials and follow directions
  • Access to and ability to use required technology
  • Communication and comprehension ability, with or without support such as translation tools
  • Physical and functional readiness to perform basic caregiving tasks
  • Personal attributes relevant to caregiving, such as patience, flexibility, and adaptability

 

Students must score 80 percent or higher to be admitted into the program.
