Our full-time Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program in Seattle, Washington, is designed to prepare students for nursing in as few as 16 months. Our accelerated nursing program combines online coursework, hands-on nursing labs and in-person clinical rotations. Under the direct supervision of its faculty members, the School of Nursing uses the facilities of large hospitals, health agencies and long-term care facilities in the community to provide optimal clinical learning experiences for students. Graduates are awarded the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure as registered nurses in Washington state. They are prepared for first-level staff nursing positions in hospitals, clinics, the military, long-term care facilities and community health agencies, with potential for rapid advancement and assumption of leadership roles. They also have the basis to pursue graduate study in nursing.
Criteria for consideration for admission to the School of Nursing include: Formal admission to Pacific Lutheran University. Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the School of Nursing. Completion, or pending completion of specified prerequisite course work at PLU, a community college or another accredited university. Completion of at least 60 non-nursing college credits, which is equivalent to sophomore status, or a non-nursing bachelor's degree. A minimum of B- in each prerequisite course with no more than one repeat of a prerequisite course. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in nursing prerequisite course work. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Physical health and emotional stability sufficient to meet the demands of nursing and provide safe patient care. Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing college-level English. Civil, administrative, and criminal history clearance in all states, as well as any applicable territory or country. Submission of all documents to the School of Nursing by the designated deadlines. ABSN Program Prerequisites (all must be completed within the last 6 years): Bio 201: Microbiology with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Bio 205: Anatomy and Physiology I with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Bio 206: Anatomy and Physiology II with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Chem 105: Chemistry of Life (Organic and Biochemistry) with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Psych 320: Developmental Psychology - Lifespan (4 semester credits). Stat 231 (acceptable at PLU as an alternative: Stat 232 or 233) (4 semester credits), and Nur120: Nutrition in Healthcare, (1 semester credit)
