Students prepare for careers in the building care and maintenance industry, including boiler operator, Maintenance Technician, Apartment Maintenance Technician, Facilities Maintenance Technician, Facilities Maintenance Engineer, and Building Engineer. Instruction includes electricity, welding, blueprint reading, machine maintenance, grounds keeping, boiler repair and operation, HVAC/R and advanced industry applications. Major elements of the program prepare students for Class V and Class IV boiler operator/fireman certification. The program also provides extended learning opportunities for persons previously or currently employed in these or other related professions. Bates Technical College’s Facilities Maintenance Engineer Program provides students with a hands-on learning experience to prepare them for employment in the building maintenance field. Buildings today are composed of many complex systems and components that work in combination to create the modern comforts we take for granted today. There is high demand for trained personnel and this program will equip students with the combination of academic and hands-on knowledge to find employment. Learn about and train on Building Electrical Systems, Low Voltage Electrical and Programmable Logic Controllers, Building HVAC and ventilation systems, boiler operation, building water and plumbing systems as well as building controls and automation. Our robust Employer Partnerships mean that successful graduates can leave the program with careers waiting for them in the field. Enrollment is open for all quarters. Certifications and degrees available through this program: Facilities Maintenance Engineer AAS; Building Care and Maintenance Certificate of Competency; Maintenance Technician I and II Certification; Building Care and Maintenance I and II Certification; CPR and First Aid Certification; Forklift Certification; OSHA 10 Certification; EPA 608 Universal Certification. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates applying to become a Nonresidential Maintenance (07) Specialty Electrician are eligible for up to 700 hours of work experience credit. Graduates must hold an active electrical training certificate through attendance of the program. Degrees & Certificates: AAS: Facilities Maintenance; Engineer - AAS program degree length: 6 Quarters; Certificate of Competency: Building Care and Maintenance - Certificate of Competency: 3-4 Quarters.
