GRADUATES: Montessori Institute offers students the knowledge and skills necessary to teach in a Montessori Elementary classroom (for children 6-12 years of age), or even to open a school on their own. COURSE LENGTH: 10-month rigorous study. COURSE FOCUS: The theory behind the Montessori Method, teaching the proper use of each unique Montessori material, and the order in which they should be introduced. Emphasis is placed on following the student. | INTERNS: Students who are interning as they are taking the course can immediately implement new skills in their classroom. MATERIALS: Students are shown how to create their own Montessori materials. SUBJECTS TAUGHT: Montessori Philosophy and Method, Math (Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra), Measurements, Language, Grammar, Physical Sciences (Geology, Astronomy, Paleontology, Archaeology, Physics, Chemistry, Transportation & Bridges), Life Sciences (Zoology, Botany, Human Anatomy, Health & Nutrition, Biology/all life forms), Social Studies (Geography, Prehistory, History of Civilizations, History of USA), Arts and Handcrafts, Music and Movement, Child Development, Classroom leadership.

EDUCATION: You must have one of the following: (a) Undergraduate Degree from fully-accredited college OR (b) WA State Teacher Certification (must obtain special permission from our Academic Director). RECOMMENDED: Montessori Early Childhood Education Certificate (may be waived depending on experience). TO APPLY: (1) Visit our school and meet with our Academic Director. (2) Submit your Application, along with your resume, transcripts, letter of interest, 2 letters of recommendation, and application fee. FOUNDED: 1951 (Oldest Montessori Teacher Education program in the Pacific Northwest). STARS HOURS: Graduating Students are exempt from the mandatory 20 initial STARS hours required by WA State for teachers and directors. LICENSED BY: WA State. INTERNATIONAL: Approved to admit Foreign students. (Issue Form I-20.) ACCREDITED BY: MACTE. Meets all MACTE Standards.
