The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science prepares you for a rewarding and meaningful career in research and policy fields across many dimensions of politics—from local to national and international. Harold Lasswell, an influential American political scientist, famously defined political science as the study of “who gets what, when and how.” This implies an area of study that is both complex and contentious. When you study political science, your will gain knowledge of political institutions and processes, public policies and political behavior. You will develop strong research and analytical skills that provide a foundation for a career in government service or in a range of private sector organizations, law firms or think tanks that directly shape the political process. You will complete core coursework in American and comparative public policy, political leadership, criminal justice policy, social justice and international politics. Through coursework, internships, peer and professional mentoring, faculty are committed to training the next generation of leaders and policy practitioners to improve and sustain a healthy and productive political community at home and abroad.
