Perry Technical Institute’s Medical Assistant program prepares students for entry-level positions in medical offices, hospitals, and other healthcare settings. The objective of this program is to equip students with the hands-on skills and knowledge needed to perform both administrative and clinical duties effectively in various healthcare settings.
Medical assistants are employed in physicians’ offices, outpatient clinics, health maintenance organizations, and hospitals. The program covers a range of clinical tasks, including measuring vital signs, performing phlebotomy, conducting electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG), and completing basic laboratory procedures. Students learn to build communication skills to support patient interaction and education, as well as administrative functions such as medical records management, billing, coding, and scheduling. Emphasis is placed on understanding and adhering to ethical and legal standards in healthcare practice. Training also includes how to assist healthcare providers during examinations and minor surgical procedures while demonstrating professionalism and a patient-centered approach.
The Medical Assistant program is nine months in length (three quarters) and combines classroom instruction with clinical practice. Students earn (37) credit hours (equivalent to 720 clock hours), with tuition payable on a quarterly basis. The student-to-teacher ratio for the Medical Assistant program is no greater than 16:1.
The program concludes with an off-campus externship, providing practical experience in a healthcare setting.
