The Traditional BSN program is designed for students with no previous preparation in nursing. Under the direct supervision of its faculty members, the School of Nursing uses the facilities of large hospitals, health agencies and long-term care facilities in the community to provide optimal clinical learning experiences for students. Graduates are awarded the bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure as registered nurses in Washington state. They are prepared for first-level staff nursing positions in hospitals, clinics, the military, long-term care facilities and community health agencies, with potential for rapid advancement and assumption of leadership roles. They also have the basis to pursue graduate study in nursing.
Criteria for Consideration for Admission to the School of Nursing Include: Formal admission to Pacific Lutheran University. Admission to the university does not guarantee admission to the School of Nursing. Completion, or pending completion of specified prerequisite course work at PLU, a community college or another accredited university. Completion of at least 30 semester credits (at least 45 quarter credits) at the college level, which is equivalent to sophomore status. A minimum of 2.5 in each prerequisite and co-requisite course. No more than one repeat of a prerequisite or co-requisite course. A minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in nursing prerequisite course work. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Completion of the university math entrance requirement (two years of college preparatory math with average grades of C or higher, or one semester of intermediate algebra at the college level with a grade of C or higher). Physical health and emotional stability sufficient to meet the demands of nursing and provide safe patient care. Fluency in speaking, reading, and writing college-level English. Civil, administrative, and criminal history clearance in all states, as well as any applicable territory or country. Submission of all documents to the School of Nursing by the designated deadlines. BSN Program Prerequisites (all prerequisites must have been completed within the past 6 years): Bio 201: Microbiology with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Bio 205: Anatomy and Physiology I with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Bio 206: Anatomy and Physiology II with on-site lab (4 semester credits), Chem 105: Chemistry of Life (Organic and Biochemistry) with on-site lab (4 semester credits). Psych 320: Developmental Psychology - Lifespan (4 semester credits) (Psych 101: Introduction to Psychology is a prerequisite to Psychology 320). Stat 231 (4 semester credits), and Nurs 120: Nutrition
