The apprentice shall receive on the job instruction and experience as is necessary to become a qualified journey-level worker versed in the theory and practice of the occupation covered by these Standards. Joueney-level pay is $42.41 per hour.
Minimum qualifications must be clearly stated and applied in a nondiscriminatory manner [WAC 296-05-015(17)]. Must be at least 18 years of age. Proof of age must be provided. Applicants shall be a high school graduate or have a State Equivalent Certification or have a passing grade on an official high school equivalency test. Applicants must provide the Apprenticeship Committee with proof of high school graduation or a copy of his/her State Equivalent Certification or a copy of his/her high school equivalency test scores. Applicants must complete the COMPASS test (at the applicants' expense). The minimum qualifying scores are as follows: Writing Skills 23, Reading Skills 70, and Numerical Skills 51. Applicants must have a valid Washington State driver license. Military DD-214 (if applicable). The applicant must provide a negative 9-panel Non-DOT drug test (at applicants' expense) administered through Construction Data Services. The test shall be taken within 30 days prior to the applicant's interview. A drug testing chain-of-custody form along with a list of collection will be provided to the applicant at the time of application. Exceptions may be made by the Apprenticeship Committee to the above qualifications if admission as an apprentice will benefit the applicant and the industry. The amount of credit given for previous work experience shall be determined by the Apprenticeship Committee after a careful review of the merits of each case.
