Prerequisite courses and other requirements

Minimum qualifications must be clearly stated and applied in a nondiscriminatory manner [WAC 296-05-015(17)]. Applicant must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment as an apprentice. High school graduate or GED equivalent, plus 2 years mechanical schooling within the last five years, with a passing score of "C" or better. (Equivalent mechanic work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.) Applicant must pass a physical examination according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 391.41 Subpart E. Applicant must also pass a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) drug test with negative results.
