The apprentice shall receive on the job instruction and experience as is necessary to become a qualified journey-level worker versed in the theory and practice of the occupation covered by these Standards. The following is a condensed schedule of work experience, which every apprentice shall follow as closely as conditions will permit. Employers/training agents shall only use registered apprentices to perform the work processes as stated in this section. [WAC 296-05-303(5)(f)]. Communication procedures, dispatch office familiarization, dispatch boards, forms, logs, and miscellaneous emergency work procedures. Safety laws, tagging procedures, switching procedures, introduction to SCADA. Substation operation, underground system operations, clearance procedures, SCADA. Load management, circuit mapping, switching, storm management, crew call-out, SCADA operation.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

At least 18 years of age. Applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED, with a recommendation of at least one year of HS Algebra or equivalent. Able to meet the requirements of the trade. Applicant must take the National J.A.T.C. test with a passing score of 4 or better. Applicants must have ability and aptitude to learn correct practices as they relate to A unit classifications and the ability to use tools and equipment of the trade. Must possess a valid Washington State Driver License.
