The Commercial Building instruction areas include refrigeration and building systems, boiler operations, and hazardous waste management. Students learn to regulate and maintain heating, cooling, and ventilation systems for commercial buildings. An emphasis is placed on practical experience and hands-on training whenever possible. This program is a recognized “School of Technology” by the cities of Seattle and Tacoma advisory boards.

Prerequisite courses and other requirements

Must take the Accuplacer test with a score of QRAS: 200-219 or higher before enrolling in AMATH 175 or CBE 101. Admission Recommendations: Able to lift 50 lbs. occasionally, climb ladders and work in confined spaces. Write, speak and understand English. Mechanically inclined with good eye/hand coordination. Willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays. To be employed in this field, the student must be able to perform moderately physically demanding tasks on a regular basis.
