This degree program introduces individuals who wish to gain employment in areas such as police support, crime scene investigations, and fingerprint and trace evidence examination to the field of Forensics. Forensics or criminalistics is concerned with the recognition, identification, individualization, and evaluation of physical evidence using the methods of the natural sciences. Some of the major areas of this specialty include forensic medicine, toxicology, serology, anthropology, and odontology, trace evidence (hair, fibers, glass, etc.), documentary evidence, ballistics, explosives, accelerates, and fingerprint examination. Students are encouraged to participate in the Criminal Justice Club. This degree helps prepare students to transfer to a university to continue their education in Forensics. Those interested in transferring to a university should consider this degree as it also satisfies the requirement of the Associate in Arts.
