This program provides career transition into the field of education for those who already hold a Bachelor's degree but lack teacher certification. City University provides a program that focuses on both field participation and academics. Course work is combined with classroom teaching in a comprehensive program. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have satisfied requirements for a Washington State Residency Teaching Certificate with a primary endorsement for either Elementary Education (K-8) or Special Education (P-12) and may opt to complete a second endorsement in Elementary Education (K-8) and Special Education (P-12), English Language Learners (P-12), or Reading (P-12).

A minimum 2.75 GPA in undergraduate course work and have documentation of course work including five quarter credits in each of the following disciplines: English Language Literacy (for example: Reading, Composition, Communication or Literature), Pass (if Pass/Fail) or 2.0 or higher Math (for example: Geometry, Algebra or Statistics), Pass (if Pass/Fail) or 2.0 or higher Science (for example: Life or Physical Science with lab), Pass (if Pass/Fail) or 2.0 or higher Social Studies (for example: U.S. History, Geography, Economics or Civics), Pass (if Pass/Fail) or 2.0 or higher. No convictions of criminal misdemeanors and/or felonies (verification will be established by an FBI and WSP fingerprint check). Pass the Washington Educator Skills Test - Basic (WEST-B). Successful experience working with children within the last five years (professional or volunteer). Furnish a written portfolio as outlined. The WEST-E must be taken prior to the end of the first quarter and passed prior to student teaching.
