The Hazardous Materials Endorsement Training Program is a theory-based course designed for CDL holders or CDL applicants seeking a Hazardous Materials (H) endorsement. The program prepares students for the state-administered hazardous materials knowledge test by covering the required entry-level driver training topics under 49 CFR Part 380, Appendix E.
Instruction includes basic hazardous materials requirements, operational requirements, shipping papers and hazard communication, marking, labeling, placarding, emergency response information, reporting hazardous materials incidents, railroad-highway grade crossing and tunnel requirements, loading and unloading hazardous materials, hazardous materials on passenger vehicles, bulk packaging awareness, emergency equipment, fueling requirements, tire checks, route planning, and Hazardous Materials Safety Permit awareness.
The program is classroom/theory instruction only and does not include behind-the-wheel training. Students must complete all required instructional topics and demonstrate understanding through knowledge checks or a final assessment. Upon successful completion, Sunnyside CDL School may submit the student’s training completion information to the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, as applicable.
