Refresher Course
Sunnyside CDL School’s CDL Refresher Course is a 7-hour, FMCSA-focused training program designed for current CDL holders, returning drivers, employer-referred drivers, and drivers preparing for an employer road test. The course is not Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT); it is intended to help licensed drivers rebuild safe operating habits, refresh key federal safety responsibilities, and demonstrate practical readiness in a commercial vehicle.
The program includes 2 hours of classroom review, 2 hours of range exercises, and 3 hours of backing and supervised road driving. Students review driver responsibilities, hours-of-service awareness, ELD use, DVIR and inspection duties, drug and alcohol requirements, medical qualification, and defensive driving. Practical training includes pre-trip inspection, in-cab and air brake checks, vehicle familiarization, controlled movement, backing maneuvers, turns, lane control, speed management, intersections, merging, and safe space management.
To complete the course, students must attend all 7 hours, follow Sunnyside CDL School safety policies and instructor directions, demonstrate safe operation during range and road activities, and receive an instructor evaluation documenting their performance. Successful students may receive a CDL Refresher Course Certificate of Completion and a Driver Skills Evaluation for school, student, or employer records.
