Medication Assistant
A Certified Medication Assistant program is designed for a CNA who has received additional training and is authorized to safely, legally, and accurately administer non-injectable medications, as well as to perform related duties and responsibilities in healthcare settings. CMAs prepare and give routine medications to patients; stock and maintain an adequate drug inventory; and document medication administration and its effectiveness, noting any adverse side effects. Certified Medication Aides must complete a Washington State Board of Nursing-approved medication aide training program, pass a competency exam approved by the state, and obtain CMA certification before administering medications.
