Educating students in all aspects of professional barbering. Providing services to the hair, head, neck, face and scalp including haircutting, hair design and styling, scalp massage, facial hair and skin care. Clover Park Technical College uses an interactive system of training, utilizing hands-on applications, as well as up to 25 percent online training to support student learning. This model is considered a world leader in barbering education and provides innovative, high-quality educational systems that promote excellence in the barber industry. Students will participate in realistic training in the student-operated barber shop. Successful graduates are prepared to sit for the Washington State Department of Licensing Barber examinations. Employability Requirements: To qualify for a barber license from the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL), a student must successfully complete the technical courses offered in the program, complete the required DOL hours, and pass both the written and practical examinations required by the Washington Department of Licensing. Washington State (WAC 308-20-080). Minimum instruction requirements for barbering: Theory of the practice of barbering services and business practices and basic human anatomy and physiology. Shampooing including draping, brushing, scalp manipulations, conditioning and rinsing. Scalp and hair analysis. Hair cutting and trimming including scissors, razor, thinning shears and clippers. Hair styling, wet, dry and thermal styling and styling aids. Cutting and trimming of facial hair including shaving, beard and mustache design and eyebrow, ear and nose hair trimming. Artificial hair. Cleaning and disinfecting of individual workstations, individual equipment and tools and proper use and storage of linens. Diseases and disorders of the skin, scalp and hair. Safety including proper use of implements and electrical appliances. First aid as it relates to barbering. Not all training may be on mannequins. Physical Requirements: Use of hands and fingers to handle fine motor controls. Stand for long periods of time (3 to 4 hours at a time). Repetitive movements. Bend or twist body and hold position. Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm. Program Length: This program is approximately four quarters long, depending on the time students need to satisfactorily complete all program requirements.

Completion Requirements. Program Course List. Students must pass all classes with a ‘C’ or better to progress in the program. In addition to successfully passing all of the courses, students must also meet the requirements of the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) in order to sit for the licensure examinations.
