Sword & Crown Tattoo Academy provides a fully comprehensive course for aspiring tattoo artists to begin their career in the tattooing trade with a strong foundation. We strive to meld the passion and experiential nature of an apprenticeship with the structure and method of a school to usher in a fresh perspective and knowledge has for beginning veteran artists alike.
Our curriculum covers everything from where tattooing came from and how it’s evolved to art and design, with weekly flash challenges gets and critiques. There is specific focus on supplies, supplies, equipment, sanitation, state laws and the business of tattooing leading to client services. Students have hands on training and feedback from instructors as they learn how to assemble traditional machines and become familiar with contemporary wireless pen machines. Starting with premade designs and practice synthetic skins they begin to develop their understanding of tattoo machines and their operation. Once they have developed competency they begin tattooing their own tattoo designs, and ultimately have over 100 practice hours, before they are able to tattoo on real clients in our final section we call ‘the crucible’.
With direct instructor oversight students take all they’ve learned over the year to successfully apply tattoo designs on 50 different clients. They are responsible for setting appointments and consultations with clients and effectively using safety and sanitation practices to provide clients with a clean, safe and positive tattoo experience. Students then must give proper aftercare instruction and ensure quality with follow up communications and touch ups if necessary for clients. Each tattoo experience is evaluated from consultations to touch ups for a clear understanding and direction for improvement and success.
